1Installation of a new satellite telecommunications system in Japan (one week)
A team of electrical engineers from a leading US aerospace company came to Japan to install a new satellite system for a major Japanese telecommunications company. I accompanied them throughout their assignment, interpreting at scheduled and ad-hoc meetings throughout the day and helping to surmount the language and cultural barriers.
2School visit to resolve conflict between non-Japanese parents and school
A non-Japanese family resident in Tokyo experienced some issues with their child’s school regarding learning difficulties and their child’s treatment at school. I accompanied them on several visits to the school to talk through the issues with the headteacher and other staff, eventually reaching a compromise satisfactory to both sides.
3Compliance audit of Japanese-operated factories in India and Thailand for US Department of Justice (one week)
Following some defects in industrial products that resulted in major litigation, a team of US government lawyers visited Japanese-owned factories in India and Thailand to ensure that compliance measures were being adhered to. I provided consecutive interpretation for interviews with management and employees, and simultaneous interpretation for presentations to all staff.
4Interpreting online and in person for investor relations meetings
Investor relations interpreting for fund managers/institutional investors interviewing CEO/CFOs about the company’s financial results and future outlook, dividend policies etc.
5Interpreting online (simultaneous) for company presentations
A UK fashion brand was launching a new apparel line in Japan, and needed to brief the Japanese advertising/marketing team about the brand values and tone of voice. The presentation was in English, with a separate interpreting line provided to allow non-English speakers to listen in real time on their smartphone/device.
6Interpreting in-person for Japanese government meetings
A Japanese government agency convened an online conference regarding cold chain logistics and transportation of vaccines with governments of ASEAN nations. I was asked to attend the meeting to ensure smooth communication.
